What I Dread About Pride Month Each Year

AH YES. PRIDE MONTH IS HERE . . .

I don’t think I dread logging onto my feed and being active in the online Catholic / Christian community more than I do during this particular time of the year.

It gets tiring scrolling through post after post containing nothing but “fire and brimstone” verses from Leviticus and Genesis.

It’s disheartening to click through stories and see blatant mockery + belittling of others masked under the guise of “being truly loving” and “calling them out”.

I’m tired of having to witness the irony of us within the Church actually being the most prideful of them all.

You’re not “doing your part” by posting a Catechism quote regarding homosexuality on your page and calling it a day.

You’re not authentically loving anybody if you’re solely posting truth without any charity, any encounter, or any willingness to actually meet the other where they’re at.

Church: we need to be better during the month of June.

If the rainbow is truly a sign of God’s love for us, not a symbol for humanity’s pride, then shouldn’t our invitation as a Church be a bit clearer?

How are we tangibly extending our arms to reach our brothers and sisters within secular LGBT+ spaces? Where’s the hope for them if they choose to accept our invitation?

This is where our attention should be.

June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Let’s focus our efforts on inviting our brothers and sisters who have LGBT+ experiences to journey with us in the pursuit of His Sacred Heart.

The journey towards His Heart is hopeful. The journey is exciting. The journey is freeing.

Not just for “them”. But for all of us.

My feet are ready to venture upwards. Are yours?

Very willing but unsure how to make the invitation more inviting. Come Holy Spirit and lead us +
